I planted this nice geocache in October 2010 which was my 3rd geocache in Panama. The previous two had been vandalized before they were found by any geocacher.
My latest addition (M&M Mysteries: Blue) with code GC33E77E takes the geocacher through interesting places in the town of Boquete, Chiriqui, Panama. Obviously not all of Boquete but there is potential for more.
Late last year by Christmas a group of geocachers spending Christmas in Boquete took on the challenge and where very happy with the places they encountered in the quest for the blue container. Their message however was worrysome, they found nothing and for I could gather they were at the right location.
Recently I went in a whirlwind tour of the country with a stop at Boquete. One early morning I walked from my hotel room to the geocache location and with great sadness I discovered that only the nylon cord to which it was attached remained on site. The rest vanished!
This is my 3rd geocache in Panama and all three have been vandalized or stolen prior to their first find. This is a very nasty statistic which I personally found very discouraging. It appears to me that in Panama people have little or no respect for anything. I am considering not planting any more geocaches in Panama because it is simply not ready for geocaching.
There are other geocaches in Panama but unfortunately most of them are in remote areas that are inaccessible to most -or at least the casual geocacher- and many of those you risk a bite by a poisonous animal.
Well, time will tell if I plant this geocache again in another location or publish a new one.
